Continuous Country
County Announces Openings on Citizen Committees

DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR COMMITTEE APPLICATIONS

For citizens looking to make a difference in local government, Clatsop
County is extending the deadline for applications to several
committees:

The Clatsop County Fair Board is seeking volunteers to fill two board
seats for full three-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2009. The Fair Board
is independent of the county government, although the county
commissioners appoint its members. Oregon law gives the Fair Board
exclusive authority over the county fairground and annual fair. Fair
Board members hold monthly meetings and attend an annual convention and
workshop in November, and help out at the annual fair and other
fundraisers.

The Clatsop County Housing Authority is accepting applications for two
positions on the board. Both are for full four year terms beginning Jan.
1, 2009. The housing authority works to preserve and develop affordable
housing for low-income citizens and oversees some subsidized housing
units. Banking, construction, architectural and real estate experience
could be helpful.

The Commission on Children and Families has an un-expired term
available ending February 2011. The commission’s mission is to plan,
motivate and advocate community action promoting the health, safety and
well being of children, youth and families. The commission funds
projects related to its targeted priorities: reduction of teen
pregnancy, reduction of youth alcohol and drug use and reduction of
child abuse.

The Human Services Advisory Committee is seeking volunteers to fill two
vacancies for un-expired terms ending Feb. 28, 2009. The committee
advises the county’s Health and Human Services Department on services
for local residents with developmental disabilities, mental illness or
drug or alcohol addictions.

The Recreational Lands Planning Advisory Committee is a group of
volunteers appointed by the county commissioners to help develop
long-range plans for county parks and changes to the county’s
comprehensive land-use plan related to recreational lands. The committee
is seeking two volunteers to fill two vacant seats with un-expired terms
ending Feb. 1, 2009 and Feb. 1, 2010.

Applications will be taken through Nov. 14, 2008. Application forms are
available from the Clatsop County Manager’s Office at 800 Exchange
St., Suite 410, by calling (503) 325-1000, or online at
www.co.clatsop.or.us.
