Registration for the 2009 Master Gardener class is currently open. You can register at the OSU Extension Service. This year the classes will be held at Clatsop Community College in Astoria on Wednesdays from 8:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The first day of class will be at the Seafood Center on January 7th, and include a locally inspired lunch, special guest speaker David Ambrose whose topic will be on Waterways and Other Environmental Considerations of Gardening, an overview of the course and pairing new students with veteran Master Gardener mentors who will help you as you navigate the course. The class will meet 11 times with the last class being held on March 18th.
The Oregon State University Master Gardener Program is one of the best known programs offered through the OSU Extension system. The local chapter plans fun special events and speakers in addition to the class. Course information is founded on research based subject matter and covers all aspects of sustainable gardening and horticulture. The classes are taught by experts in their respective fields and include OSU Extension Faculty, veteran Master Gardeners and experienced gardeners. Students of all ages and abilities, beginners and experienced gardeners alike, are welcomed in the program.
The cost is $75.00 and this fee must be paid in full to the Extension office when your application is submitted. If you wish to take the course for credit, Clatsop Community College is offering the class (not listed in their published catalogs), and will give (4) credits to those interested (you must register both at the college and at the Extension office in this case). Everyone else may simply register at OSU Extension Service at 2001 Marine Dr. Room 210. Class size is limited to 36 students and the class fills fast and is on a first come, first served basis. So getting your application turned in soon is strongly encouraged.
