Classes For Criminal Justice Professionals

Weekend Classes For Criminal Justice Professionals Allow Students To Attain Educational Goals Based On Their Individual Needs

Are you a Criminal Justice professional from the northwest Oregon and/or southwest Washington area?

Are you interested in furthering your education but find it difficult to commit to a traditional course schedule?

Clatsop Community College (CCC) in Astoria, OR is excited to offer an innovative program specifically designed to assist students in furthering their education pursuits while maintaining their family and personal obligations at the same time. The Criminal Justice Weekend Class program at CCC offers a hybrid-format of instruction—a combination of traditional classroom instruction and on-line teaching—which allows students the freedom and flexibility to do their coursework and complete assignments according to their individual daily schedules.

“Being able to expand educational opportunities to include those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend college is what Clatsop College is all about,” says Joanie Dybach, CCC Criminal Justice Instructor. “By offering classes in this weekend-hybrid format, we are able to add a personal element to the traditional on-line classroom experience. The students can meet and develop working relationships with other students while simultaneously having flexibility and independence in their own learning process.”

This winter, CCC offers two hybrid-format classes:

CJ 138 Understanding Terrorism, 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. ($213)
In this course, students examine major international and domestic terrorist groups from a historical and modern day perspective to acquire fundamental knowledge concerning each group’s ideology, motivational factors, targets and operations and the response of the criminal justice community.

CJ 107 Criminal Justice Workshop, 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. ($213)
At this weekend workshop, students take a look at various controversial ideas, issues and recent events pertaining to the criminal justice system.

The classes meet in-person just 3 times throughout the term – Jan. 10, Feb. 7 and March 13.

The Criminal Justice Weekend Course program is ideal for the working criminal justice professional as well as any individual interested in our criminal justice system. The courses offered by the Weekend Program can easily be applied towards an Associates of General Studies degree, a degree program in which students have considerable latitude in selecting courses that best serve their own personal and professional goals.

2009 Winter Term registration at CCC begins December 1st and runs through January 9th. Now is the perfect time to contact the College about this program! Student must enroll through CCC to be eligible for these courses.
