(AP) — Brandon Roy scored 41 points and Andre Miller added 15 points and seven assists as the Portland Trail Blazers overcame a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Golden State Warriors 110-105 last night. Portland's Rudy Fernandez added 12 points including a pair of 3-pointers during a late 17-3 run. The Warriors lost their sixth in a row.
Jackson re-signs with Seattle Storm SEATTLE (AP) — Two-time WNBA MVP Lauren Jackson has re-signed with the Seattle Storm. The team said yesterday that it signed Jackson to a multiyear contract. The first Seattle player to win two professional league MVP awards has been with the Storm for all nine of her WNBA seasons. She says she's healthy and re-energized after a winter playing at home in Australia.
UW's Jackson will be back next year SEATTLE (AP) — Washington athletic director Scott Woodward says women's basketball coach Tia Jackson will return next season. Woodward tells The Associated Press that the 37-year-old Jackson will come back for the fourth season of a five-year contract. That's despite the worst three-year record in the program's history. Woodward says he's seeing marked progress.
Blazers crown Kings 88-81 PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Brandon Roy had 19 points and hit a clinching jumper with just over two minutes left, leading the Portland Trail Blazers to an 88-81 win over the Sacramento Kings last night. The Kings pulled to a 74-all tie in the final quarter, but Roy's jumper with 2:07 left made it 85-78 -- all but sealing the win. Portland has now won five in a row against the Kings.
Brewers over Mariners 6-2 UNDATED (AP) — Prince Fielder knocked in a pair of runs and Corey Hart hit a solo homer to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-2 exhibition win yesterday over a Seattle Mariners split squad. Meantime, Matt Tuiasosopo (too-ee-ah-suh-SOH'-poh) had three hits, and Franklin Gutierrez and Chris Woodward each had a run-scoring sacrifice fly to lead the other Seattle Mariners split squad to a 5-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
